I’ve been a long time Apple user, and thousands of people are anticipating the iOS 12 update that will be launched later this year. The beta version will be available for developers soon after the Apple’s WWDC keynote. With the much added hype, the WWDC unveiled new features that will make your phone a whole lot more interactive.
Augmented Reality (AR)
As anticipated, AR is a big feature for the new OS update. Apple called it the ARKit 2.0. The new functionality makes digital experience far more effective in face tracking and object rendering. Best of all, these experience can be shared with two people which they can see the same environment. I believe this would be a revolutionary tool for developers to create apps that allows users to interact with digital objects.
The photo app is more sophisticated than ever. Users can now search by event to find your photos. Other smart search suggests include filtering out photos by people, dates, and places. Users are also given recommendation to whom to share photo collections with and provide suggestions on friends to send their photos. This would make photos more organized, and less likely to be cluttered and forgotten.
Usage monitoring, limits and allowances
In a recent interview at CNN, Tim Cook addressed the issue of over usage of apps among users. It shows that apps have made an impact to the daily lives of people. Cook also admits the he also spends more time on the phone then he should. With this, Apple featured a monitoring screen time that allows users to be more aware of how much they spend time on apps, and provide daily summaries of data usage. This is helpful for those who want to customize their usage, as well as monitoring usage time for themselves and their children.
Apple added in 4 more additional characters – a ghost, a koala, a tiger and a T-Rex. And for all the Animoji, the iOS 12 can detect the motion of your tongue. I found this to be a nice additional feature to the current Animoji, because users can personify their character for messages.
Overall, I’m really looking forward to the AR update and how it plays out in regards to app integrations and sharing. I’m also interested in how I can monitor my data usage on my phone. This would greatly assist in understanding how I spend time on apps. Lastly, the photo search feature will be essential in finding photos through search filters.
