With the World Health Organization (WHO) declaring the coronavirus as a pandemic, many people are taking precautions in preventing the disease from spreading in the community. You may have heard the term “social distancing,” which is one method to combat the viral spread. But there are also effective measures you can take right at home.
Disclaimer: I am not a medical professional and this blog does not serve to provide medical advise concerning the coronavirus. For more information about the disease, please read the CDC and WHO guidelines. If you need to seek medical help, contact or consult with your doctor.
A healthy immune system reduces your chance of viral infection and flu. With these natural ways to boost the immune system, you can have a better chance for your body to fend off viral infections. If you are asymptomatic, or have a poor immune system, please consult with your doctor before trying the following remedies.
Eat Immune Booster Foods
Feeding your body certain foods may help keep your immune system strong. Eat fruits with high in Vitamin C such as citrus fruits. Vitamin C is known in the aid of production of white blood cells. Other foods such as broccoli, garlic, turmeric, green tea, almonds and ginger may aid in boosting immune health.
Decrease Your Stress Level
High stress can lower your immune response. It can also prevent your body from fighting a viral infection. Therefore, it’s important to find methods to decrease stress levels through deep breathing, meditation and sleep. If you feel anxious about the idea of coronavirus, you should know that the symptoms are usually mild for a healthy person.
Practice Good Hygiene
Wash your hands frequently. Avoid touching your face. And remind yourself to take frequent showers or baths. Our skin harbor millions of germs a day. The good part is that our skin can shed most of them off through good hygiene practices. Cook your foods throughly and avoid cross contamination of food by using your bear hands. Use plastic gloves if handling raw food.
Get enough exercise
Regular physical activity can strengthen your immune system and help your body fight off infections and viruses. Aim for at least 30 minutes of physical activity. I know many of us are probably staying indoors and can’t make it to their local gyms. If that’s the case, then try yoga, Pilates or TikTok dancing to get your body moving! You can find creative solutions to keep you active while maintaining good immune health.
I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions.
